Mid-distance swimmer Lindsay Mathys of the Wheaton Swim Club (Illinois) has made a verbal commitment to swim at Rice University in the fall of 2017.
“I’m super excited to announce my commitment to Rice University! I committed to Rice because I loved the coach and the group of girls there already feel like family to me. The University’s broad medical program and internship opportunities was also one of the main factors in my decision.”
Mathys is a senior at Downers Grove North High School. While she didn’t swim for her school during her junior year, she did represent Downers Grove North as a sophomore at the 2014 IHSA Girls State Championships, where she placed eighth in the 100 free.
Mathys swims for the Wheaton Swim Club and is a national-level freestyler and IMer. She has qualified for Winter Nationals in the 100/200 free and for Winter Juniors in the 400 free and 400 IM. Her best SCY times are:
- 100 free – 50.49
- 200 free – 1:48.98
- 500 free – 4:55.11
- 200 fly – 2:03.84
- 200 IM – 2:06.37
- 400 IM – 4:23.54
Mathys will bring immediate points to the Owls’ tally at Conference USA Championships. She would have scored in the A finals of the 100 free, 200 free, 500 free, and 400 IM, and B finals of the 200 fly and 200 IM. This kind of scoring power will allow her to fill in where the Owls need her most, to say nothing of the boost she will give to the relays. She will join fellow commits Ellery Parish and Hannah Sumbera in the Rice University class of 2021.
