After Michigan brought in the monster recruiting class for 2010, they brought in another decently-sized class of 9 last year. This season, they’re likely going to take a step back and focus more on a few important pieces to fill out some roster holes and depth. They kicked things off by signing the top-ranked swimmer from the state of Michigan: Matt McNamara.

McNamara isn’t at the level of last year’s top-ranked Michigan swimmer, Clay Youngquist, who also was the top-ranked swimmer in the country, but he will still help fill out Michigan’s breaststroke group. They have been a bit spoiled the last few years, as every year they’ve had an awesome and deep breaststroking group. Graduation however, rocked that group after last year, which is now left in the young hands of Kyle Duckitt and Canadian Richard Funk. If Funk lives up to his long-course potential, he could be one of the best in the country, but in terms of filling out a training group, McNamara’s 56.8/2:04.0 will help them do that.
