Under Armour ad “Rule Yourself” featuring GOAT Michael Phelps has been named the best of 2016 by Adweek.  The agency behind the ad was Drog5, and the director was Martin de Thurah.
As reported by Loretta Race when the ad was released:
Silence is golden in the newest Under Armour ad featuring 22-time Olympic medalist Michael Phelps. The moving tribute to the grueling grind the greatest Olympian of all time goes through on a daily basis is set against the backdrop of the company’s new “Rule Yourself” campaign.
Be mesmerized by taking in Phelps’ extreme work ethic in the pool, in the weight room, even by the way the man sleeps, all aimed at sending the 30-year-old legend to his 5th and final Olympic Games. His facial expressions are raw, his sweat and grunts indicative of just how serious Phelps is this time around.
With The Kills’ “The Last Goodbye” playing in the background, viewers are compellingly drawn into the theme of “It’s what you do in the dark, that puts you in the light.” Absolute chills.
He’s the greatest. I cannot express enough how much he means to me personally but also to the entire sport.
What was Phelps’ greatest swim? I’m thinking his 400 IM in Beijing.
If you ask him, he’ll say the 200 Free in Beijing in terms of execution.
If that’s the case then that 400IM was leaving something off the table.
200 fly 07 Worlds
I think his 400 IM record at Beijing 2008 may stand for a very long time.
That race showed his tremendous virtuosity as well as his tremendous endurance.
Maybe his most perfect race.
Amazing ad. So inspiring every time I watch it. Does anyone know if the little pool filled with leaves is the small pool at MP’s rehab facility? If so, it’s a nice way to depict the struggle he faced during that period in comparison to the amazing success he’s achieved since.
Does anyone know the name of this song?
It’s in the article.
Last goodbye by the kills
I still get goosebumps every time I watch it
My eyes well up every time I see it, such a powerful and beautiful video..
Everything is beautiful in that video. Pictures, comments, music….
MP forever.
The greatest swimmer!
