On the final day of the Miami Invite, host Miami held off Vanderbilt in the team standings, though Vandy did close the gap, finishing just 71 points behind Miami.
Miami’s Carmen San Nicolas Martinez swam a 50.00 in prelims of the 100 free, before breaking 50 seconds with a 49.93 in finals. The swim was good for a win, as Eleanor Beers of Vanderbilt took 2nd in 50.52 (50.44 prelims), and Miami’s Sydney Knapp took 3rd in 50.60. San Nicolas Martinez swam an incredibly tight race on night 3, taking the swim out in 24.61, and coming home in 25.32, marking a difference of just 0.71 seconds between her 50s.
San Nicolas and Knapp would go on to compete on Miami’s winning 400 free relay, with San Nicolas leading off in 50.84, and Knapp anchoring in 50.90. Adrianna Cera split 50.01 on the 2nd leg, and Jacey Hinton going 3rd with a 50.70. The Hurricanes touched in 3:22.45, beating out Vanderbilt by 3 seconds.
Miami freshman Giulia Carvalho won the 200 breast handily, swimming a personal best of 2:14.83. She led a 1-2 charge by the Hurricanes, with Emma Sundstrand taking 2nd in 2:16.43. Carvalho took the race out fast, splitting 30.84, 34.27, and 34.42 on the first 3 50s, before fading a bit on the final 50, where she split a 35.30.
5th year transfer Danika Huizinga took the 200 back in 1:59.36, leading a 1-2 charge by Miami. Huizinga took the race out in 58.01, but wasn’t able to keep the pace, splitting 30.69 and 30.66 on the final 2 50s. Adrianna Cera came in 2nd, swimming a 2:00.35.
In a field of just 5 swimmers, Miami dominated the 1650, with Adrianna Cera and Aino Otava going 1-2 by a huge margin. Cera clocked a 16:44.51, with Otava right behind in 16:45.71. The pair were more than 30 seconds ahead of everyone else in the field.
Vanderbilt picked up a win in the 200 fly, with Kailia Utley roaring to a 1:59.19, touching first by over 2 seconds. Utley paced the race well, splitting 26.97 and 30.17 on the first 2 50s, for a 57.14 on the first 100. Coming home, she split 30.82 and 31.23 on the final 2 50s, for a 1:02.05 on the 2nd 100.
