Matty Wabeke of the Loveland Swim Club in Northern Colorado verbally committed to compete with the Saint Louis Billikens for the 2015-2016 season.
Wabeke holds some fairly decent times in the sprint freestyles which will help her cause for getting on the Saint Louis relays. Other than the sprint freestyles, she’s a rounded swimmer posting times of similar caliber in the IM’s, 200 backstroke, and middle distance freestyle. Her IM’s are definitely up there as some of her best events, with personal bests of 4:33.29 in the 400 and 2:09.82 in the 200.
Wabeke isn’t far out of a 400 free relay spot. Her lifetime-best is just over a second slower than the 4th leg on Saint Louis’s relay at last year’s Atlantic-10 Championships, and three-quarters of that relay will be graduated by next fall.
In the 4x50m freestyle relay, she’ll need to make a similar time drop to secure herself a spot. Her current personal best in the 50 is a 25.36. Similarly, she’s a 1:58.55, a time that’s still a few second away from giving her a definite spot on the 4x200m freestyle relay.
She’s a solid pickup for the Billikens, and a swimmer who can swim a multitude of events which is a blessing in itself for any coach.
