MIDWAY, Ky. — The Martin Methodist Men and Women’s swim teams competed at Midway University this past Saturday in a battle between the newest programs in the Mid-South Conference; Midway University and Shawnee State.
The men’s team won every individual event against Shawnee State and won the meet handily 130-72. The men had similar results against Midway, winning all but two races. The RedHawks defeated Midway 120-43, to begin their first-ever season with two historic victories.
The RedHawk men were led by Freshmen Matt Swanson, David Braghin and Daniel Villanueva as they each won three individual events in the Mid-South Conference Tri-Meet.
Swanson claimed top spot in the 200 Freestyle (1:55.57), 200 Backstroke (2:06.54) and the 500 Freestyle (5:24.24). Braghin won the 100 Back (1:02.48), 50 Freestyle (24.00) and 100 Freestyle (52.77). Villanueva took first place in the 100 Breast (1:06.96), 200 Breast (2:32.24) and 200 IM (2:07.21).
Also leading the the RedHawk men were Freshmen Gabe Leys, claiming one first place and two second place finishes. Darien Maysonet secured a second place finish and two third place finishes.
On the women’s side, tennis standout turned swimmer Emely Castro, competed in three events, 100 breast, 50 free and 100 free.
The Redhawks will travel to Williams Baptist for their final Fall semester meet on November 20th.
