Marshall Women Pick Up 172-127 Victory Over Toledo

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall swimming and diving team earned a 172-127 victory over Toledo on Saturday in the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.

The Thundering Herd had six first place individual finishes and two first place relay finishes to help capture the win. Or Tamir finished first in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events. Paige Banton won two individual events as well, claiming the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke.

“This week we talked about committing to our race details and execution on the boards,” Marshall swimming and diving head coach Ian Walsh said. “Our women did a fantastic job of taking ownership in the area of their performances. The team is in a great place leading into our mid-season meet next week in Lynchburg.”

Alaina Laster finished second in the Women’s 3 meter Diving with a score of 240.30 (4 points) and Kailee Payne finished second in the Women’s 1 meter Diving with a score of 241.43 (4 points).

HUNTINGTON, W Va. – The Toledo swimming and diving team won eight events against Marshall Saturday morning, but came up short by a 172-127 margin.

“The team gave it their all today,” head coach Brie Globig said. “We have plenty of success to celebrate. We’re looking forward to resting for our Zippy Invitational.”

Toledo was led by junior Jovana Duric, junior Kennedy Lovell and sophomore Madison Giglio, who each won two events each.

Duric won the 1,650 freestyle (17:32.58) five seconds ahead of the heat. Duric then surged ahead in the final lap of the 500 freestyle to take the first-place finish with a time of 5:08.09.

Lovell pushed ahead in the last turn of the 200 freestyle to take first place and touch the wall at 1:52.01. She followed with a first place 52.02-mark in the 100 freestyle.

Giglio dominated the diving boards, with a 265.35 mark in the three-meter and a 250.28 mark in the one-meter.

Sophomore Sydney Conrad won the 100 butterfly with a 56.44 touch time.

Lauren Kilgore won the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.83, three seconds ahead of the pack.

Next on the Rockets’ schedule is the West Virginia University Diving Invitational, in Morgantown, W. Va. The event will run Nov.18-20 in The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park, with a scheduled 10:00 a.m. start time each day.

Toledo Top-3 finishes

  • The 200 medley relay team of Madeline BlakelyLauren KilgoreSydney Conrad and Lucie Morris finished third with a time of 1:49.11.
  • Lauren Kilgore finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.76, and third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:22.79.
  • Sydney Conrad was the only Rocket in the 200 butterfly and finished second with a time of 2:05.29.
  • Kennedy Lovell took second in the 50 free with a 24.28 touch time.
  • In the 200 backstroke Kendra Polewski finished second with a new personal-best 2:09.68 touch time, followed by Sydnee Dressel in third with a time of 2:10.65.
  • Senior Joelle Gallais finished third with a score of 238.43 in the three-meter.
  • The 400 freestyle relay team of Lovell, Nejla KaricLucie Morris and Conrad narrowly took second with a time of 3:33.09.
