Manaudou Posts a 21.61 50 Freestyle to Win French Open

Can someone please explain to me the Cielo doping situation? And shouldn’t that situation affect our perception of his previous WR and top ten level times?

BITW,
Cielo doping case was in 2011, his WR´s in 2009 with shiny suits.Cielo doping was by Furosemide(a diuretic) in a tainted caffeine supplement used during swimming practice.

Okay , thank you.
So I’m assuming he was using it as some sort of pre workout? Did he admit guilt or does he maintain his innocence?

At the time, Cielo was taking to stay “On” in practice and warm ups pre race(at the time most Brazilian swim competition finals were in the MORNING).
Cielo got one month suspension(instead of 6months) because he did tests in prior batches of his supplement(the negligence could not be enforced), but the last one was a bottle made in a isolated and express way, and no test was done.He proved his allegations showing a control sheet with manipulation of Furosemide 20 minutes before his supplement was assembled. And tests in the remaining capsules showing the small amount of furosemide contamination. And there is the fact the steroid use could not be alleged because the urine was not diluted and the amount was… Read more »

Other French news. Sad news this time.

50 fly specialist Mélanie Hénique has been victim with 2 friends of a homophobic physical agression outside a restaurant in Amiens on Friday, June 26th. She went to emergency, had a broken nose and needed a surgery. She missed 10 days of training and is shocked psychologically. It was of course the reason of her withdrawal of this French Open.

Bobo, what happened? Why did this happen? When you say, “homophobic physical aggression”, you mean that she was violently attacked. What caused this attack?

Would have loved to see what Manaudou could have done in the super suit era

That is a very taboo thing to say in the swimming community

Probably a touch faster than Cielo’s suit record, I would suggest around 20.75 at the absolute fastest.

In short course meters, I’m guessing close to a sub-20 in the free and perhaps sub-22 in the backstroke. Also sub-50 in the 100m IM (though I think he’ll achieve that soon anyway). What do you think?

At least he accepts to swim the finals in that event….
Monster start as always and his second best time of the year well ahead of the others.
His goals of the summer: to win a first individual gold medal at the LCM world championships and a new 50 free PB around 21.20.

While Manaudou time is a great one, our perception of dominance is tainted by Cielo under performing. In 2010, Cielo did 21.55 in the same competition.21.66 in 2011.21.78 in 2013(Manaudou won in 21.64) and 21.16 last year(Manaudou won in 21.71). The age is coming to Cielo.
