Head coach of Maine swimming and diving, Susan Lizzotte announced the Maine men’s and women’s captains for the 2014-15 season. For the women’s squad rising juniors Naja Harvey (Orono, Minn.) and Abby Linn (Elkhart, Ind.) earned the honor, while the men’s team named rising juniors Ryan Fahey (Quincy, Mass.) and David Vittori (South Berwick, Maine) team captains.
“I am excited to be working with these four student athletes this coming year,” head swim coach of Maine swimming and diving, Susan Lizzotte said. “They each bring a different piece of leadership to the team. Their work ethic in the classroom, pool and community will help the team continue in a positive direction and in an upward swing. I know with these captains leading us next year that we will achieve our program’s goals.”
Harvey continues to be a standout for the Black Bears as she finished the 2013-14 season with five more broken records. Individually, Harvey set the new standard in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 50-yard freestyle and had a hand in two relay records, the 200-yard free relay and the 400 medley relay. She also capped the year by making the NCAA “B” cut in the 100 breaststroke. Harvey was recently inducted into the All Maine Women honor society several weeks ago. She is also the co-president of SAAC.
Linn just completed her junior year for the Black Bears competing primarily in the breaststroke. Linn’s season saw many top-five finishes including a third-place showing against Vermont (1:11.59), and fourth-place finishes against Bryant and UNH. Her She recorded a seventh place finish in the 100 breaststroke. She also took ninth in the 100 breast, also at the America East championship.
Fahey concluded a successful 2013-14 campaign highlighted by a multitude of first place finishes, including top-honors against URI in the 200-yard breaststroke and butterfly, and in the 1000-yard freestyle against Brown. He capped the year at the ECAC tournament swimming in the 400 IM, 500 free and 200 breaststroke. Fahey has recently been in the news for his academic achievements as he was recently inducted into the Senior Skulls honor society. He also serves as part of SAAC.
Meanwhile, David Vittori just completed his junior season, helping to set a new program standard in the 200-yard relay. Vittori joined Matt England, Caleb Hoffman and John Carlucci as the quartet came in with a time of 1:32.48 at the ECAC meet, while he also placed 14th in the 200-yard freestyle. Vittori also tallied several first-place finishes during the season including top honors against URI in the 50-yard free style, the 200 and 500-yard free against Boston College and the 500 and 1000 free against Bryant. Vittori volunteers his time away from the pool as well taking part in the group MAAV (male athletes against violence).
