Liu Yaxin Puts Up 1:54.96 200 Free To Become China’s 3rd-Best Ever

2025 CHINESE NATIONAL SPRING SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2025 Chinese National Spring Swimming Championships wrapped up from Qingdao, giving us a glimpse into the types of performances we may expect at May’s World Championship Trials.

We reported how Wan Letian cranked out a big-time performance of 27.09 to win the women’s 50m backstroke to become the 4th-best performer in history.

The women’s 200m free saw Liu Yaxin fire off an in-season swim of 1:54.96 to beat the field by nearly 2 seconds.

The 25-year-old’s nearest competitor was Yang Peiqi who touched in 1:56.90 followed by Yu Yiting who captured bronze in 1:57.03.

Liu’s time represented a monster personal best, erasing her previous career-swiftest performance of 1:56.18 put on the books in 2023.

She now checks in as China’s 3rd-fastest female in history as well as the #1 performer in the world this season.

1.54.9 isn’t as surprising as what it would of been about 5 years ago after Mollie and Titmus have ushered in an era of domination in the event. it’s a good time and thing for the Chinese relay but dang slow compared to 1.52.2 and 1.52.4

um isnt this meet just a tune up ahead of their trials later in may? viewing them through the lens of a pro swim series, these times are frighteninggg.

  • cmiiw was yu yitings 200 free pb previously a 159? if so… watch out! shes literally an archetypal bohly pupil. she could probably start being very dangerous across basically every relay, 100 fly, 200 im, 400 im
  • china will also likely be challenging for gold in the 4×200 if new aussie faces dont step up and bella doesnt return to a 154 split form
  • if china plugs their backstroke hole theyre likely going to surpass the us in the womens medley when lily retires… once again i am

I’m from China and I’d like to clarify that Yu Yiting is not training with Bohl. Her coach is Wang Haibo. Currently, Bohl only coaches 4 national team members : Qin Haiyang, Sun Jiajun (breaststroke/butterfly), Wang Haoyu (freestyle), Peng Xuwei (backstroke), and some teenagers.
