Krzysztof Chmielewski Notches World Championships QT In Men’s 200 Fly

2023 POLISH GRAND PRIX

Competing on day two of the 2023 Polish Grand Prix in Oświęcim, Krzysztof Chmielewski took the men’s 200m butterfly in a time worthy of World Championships qualification.

The 18-year-old got to the wall in a time of 1:56.24, dipping under the World Aquatics ‘A’ standard of 1:56.61 needed for Fukuoka.

His brother, Michal Chmielewski was the silver medalist in the race, clocking a result of 1:57.92. Although that missed the mark for Fukuoka, it’s good enough to qualify for the 2023 World University Games.

Krzysztof Chmielewski had a breakout 2022 when the Pole earned 200m fly gold and 400m free bronze at the World Junior Championship while also contributing to two relay gold medals. At the European Junior Championships, he also topped the 200mfly podium while snagging silver in the 400m free and 1500m free and also bagging bronze in the 800m free.

The men’s side saw Dominik Dudys snag a World University Games-worthy time of 49.48 en route to topping the men’s 100m freestyle podium.

As for the women, Adela Piskorska earned World Championships qualification on her way to winning the women’s 100m back event.

The 20-year-old posted a time of 1:00.59 as the 2nd fastest outing of her career, dipping under the World Aquatics ‘A’ standard of 1:00.59 in the process.
