Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu did not have to put forth much effort to claim the top time in the women’s 100 IM prelimns, and she set a new Championship Record with her 57.52 effort. Hosszu is coming off her World Record performance last night in the 400 IM, and she knocked off a familiar name from the record books, as Lithuania’s Ruta Meilutyte had previously held the meet record with a 57.68 from the 2013 European Championships.
Notably, Hosszu was out just under a half second slower than her WR record split of 26.17 from last year’s World Championships. Considering she wasn’t pushed by the competition this morning and that she usually gets faster as the heats progress, another world record may fall tonight as Hosszu leads the field in the semifinal rounds.
