Primary Responsibilities

The Head Site Coach  is responsible for organizing and directing the SMAC Mercer Island programs.

 

Head Site Coach Responsibilities

 

  • Create an environment where families want their children.
  • Establish a site culture where the process of learning and individual responsibility is valued.
  • Educate swimmers and families about the roles and value of technical excellence, commitment, and competition in setting the foundation for high-level performance.
  • Collaborate with the head coach to define seasonal goals and objectives. With the support of the coaching staff, implement a team wide plan to produce those results.
  • Promote and build the Mercer Island program to a self-sustaining number of swimmers (approximately 80-90).
  • Where appropriate, assist swimmers in goal-setting.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with the Mercerwood Shore Club.
  • With the approval of the Head Coach, hire, supervise and train assistant coaches and verify coaching certification requirements according to USA Swimming and Pacific Northwest Swimming.  Included in this is (a) the development a systematic training approach to be implemented by the assistant coaches for all swimming levels of the program and (b) conducting periodic reviews and evaluations of the performance of the assistant coaches.
  • Conduct periodic parent/team meetings to inform parent community of team issues and events.
  • Maintain current coaching certification requirements according to USA Swimming and Pacific Northwest Swimming
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach

Deck time will be 15- 18 hours a week between the hours of 5-8PM  M-F and 2 hours on Saturday AM’s. Schedule TBA plus 4-6 hours of admin time per week.

Qualifications & Preferences

Preferred minimum 3 years coaching experience, with preference on leadership roles.

A background in teaching or lesson instruction.

Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred, not required)

A background in dryland training or yoga instruction is desired.  There is opportunity to work with other groups on the team for additional compensation.

 

 

Salary & Benefits

Base Salary $32,000-$38,000

Other opportunities for significant revenue including work with other groups on the team, private lessons, etc.
