GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Aquatics, the Head Lifeguard is responsible for overall supervision of the lifeguard staff, including shift scheduling and training. Additional responsibilities include oversight of the pools and swimmers to ensure pool rules are followed and safety is a top priority.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists in the scheduling, training, supervision, development of those supervised in accordance with company policies and directives
Onboards new lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities.
Ensures that all lifeguards are current on their training and certifications
Schedules, coordinates and conducts in service training. Ensures that lifeguards are fully competent in first aid, CPR, and all water rescue techniques
Supervise the activities of swimmers by consistently enforcing rules and regulations.
Notify swimmers of improper activities or hazards.
Rescue persons in distress or in danger of drowning when indicated and provide rescue breathing, CPR and First Aid.
Notify Aquatics Director of any accidents, rescues, or problems.
Report to the Aquatics Director any equipment that needs repair.
Answer inquiries pertaining to the use of the pool and Aquatics services offered.
Direct all helpful suggestions from participants and others to Aquatics Director or Club Management
Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
Monitor uniform adherence of all staff
Help keep pool decks clean, safe, and organized.
Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
Follow all safety procedures and precautions.
Ensures that swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on decks. Fills in for lifeguards as necessary
Give high quality of Member and Guest Service
This includes giving full attention to the pool/swimmers while in the guard chair. Do not have a conversation, if a member needs assistance, please refer him/her to the Head Lifeguard or to the Service Desk.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

Current Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, AED & First Aid certifications.
Knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques and first aid, recognize hazardous situations, and adopt effective courses of action.
Effective communication skills and engage positively with membership.
Require attentiveness to visual and audible cues for recognition and identification of swimmers in distress or in process of unsafe behaviors.
Requires proficient swimming ability and the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques.
Ability to properly extract victims from the pool(s) to the deck.

Coaching & Team Responsibilities:

The Assistant Swimming and Diving Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Swimming and Diving coach in implementing and directing all phases of a competitive NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving program in a manner that upholds the philosophy and objectives of the Department of Athletics and the University.
A successful candidate for Assistant Coach will assist with essential coaching duties including but not limited to coaching, recruiting, teaching, skill development, scouting of opponents, and practice planning; evaluate performances, and make recommendations to the head coach regarding individual participation. This role provides administrative and programmatic support to the head coach. In addition, desired qualifications include demonstrated skills in developing and motivating student-athletes for athletic and academic success at the NCAA Division I level.

Coaches are paid hourly and will be scheduled to coach one practice a week, with time and location to be mutually agreed between coach and TNYA. Our workouts are usually held at 6.30am to 8am weekdays or 7pm to 8.30pm weeknights; our current practice schedule can be found at www.tnya.org/schedule.

Appointments will be made on a rolling basis throughout the next 12 months as needed.

Rainbow Swim (Proficient Swimmers)
A general masters workout for experienced swimmers of varying skill levels (min: 100 yds under 2 minutes).

  • Pay: $30/hr ($45 per 90-min practice) + 1 free workout per practice coached
  • Ideal For: Coaches who can manage large lanes, give stroke feedback, and bring the good vibes.

LPZ / Technique Development (Beginner-Intermediate Swimmers)
Hybrid practice for adults gaining confidence or refining technique; lower coach:swimmer ratio and more instruction expected vs rainbow swim.

  • Pay: $40/hr ($60 per 90-min practice) + 1 free workout per practice coached
  • Ideal For: Coaches who can teach drills, manage mixed-ability groups, and plan multi-week progressions.

Adult Learn to Swim (ALTS)
Teaches true beginners how to swim in a small-group setting (1:3 ratio).

  • Pay: $40/hr ($30 per 45-min class, $60 total per session)
  • Ideal For: Patient, empathetic instructors who love celebrating small wins.

The primary purpose of employees in this class is to be responsible for swimmers ages 5 through 18. The coach would be available to coach on week day evenings and weekend swim meets.
