POSITION SUMMARY:

The Aquatics Coordinator will assist the Executive Director with the overall planning, development, management and supervision of all aquatic programs of St Thomas Swimming Association (“STSA”). This position is part-time, with hourly compensation, and requires approximately 20-25 hours of work per week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists the Executive Director in the oversight of daily pool operations.
  • Assists the Executive Director in the hiring, training, and supervision of all necessary personnel to deliver each program component.
  • Coordinates scheduling of aquatics staff to provide proper program delivery.
  • Keeps record of aquatics staff certifications and ensure all staff maintain current certifications.
  • Maintains records of attendance and monitors payments for each program participant.
  • Assist in maintaining pool, equipment, and grounds to meet all necessary program and regulatory standards.
  • Maintains relationships with vendors and member service with parents and program participants.
  • Responsible for filling gaps in lifeguard and swim instructor schedule.
  • Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff.
  • Completes payroll related duties for all aquatics staff.
  • Managing and updating social media platforms and website content, as well as developing and distributing newsletters.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Position requires two years of college or equivalent experience in an aquatics position.
  2. Must be 18 years of age.
  3. Prior experience or training in staff supervision and management.
  4. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and Blood Borne Pathogens. (obtain within 60 days of hire)
  1. Current Lifeguard or equivalent. (obtain within 60 days of hire)
  2. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  3. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance.
  4. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  5. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in an outdoor aquatics environment.

  1. Must be able to hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
  1. See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
  2. Ability to sit for long periods at a time are required, as well as the ability to hold breath under water when necessary.
