Iron swimmer Jenna Laukkanen broke her own Finnish National Record in the women’s 100 individual medley during the ISL’s seventh match from Budapest, registering a time of 58.42.
Laukkanen’s swim improves on her previous mark of 58.60, set at the 2018 Short Course World Championships in Hangzhou. The 25-year-old has now cracked the 59-second barrier on four occasions, also doing so twice at last December’s SC European Championships where she ultimately won bronze in the final.
In her two other matches this season, Laukkanen went 59.04 and 59.07 in the 100 IM.
Known best for her breaststroke exploits, Laukkanen actually split this race much differently than she did back in 2018, using more of a back-half strategy here in Budapest.

The Finn sat back in fourth place after 50 meters of the race, but closed more than half a second faster than everyone to take second, narrowly missing out-touching Energy Standard’s Anastasiya Shkurdai for the win.
A two-time Olympian, Laukkanen wasn’t far off her best times in the three breaststroke events for the match, taking second in the 100 (1:04.44), third in the 50 (29.82) and fourth in the 200 (2:21.87). Her lifetime bests in those events stand at 1:04.25, 29.54 and 2:21.30, respectively.
