IUPUI Men Add 6 to 2016-17 Roster

INDIANAPOLIS – Following a year in which the team virtually rewrote the records books, the IUPUI men’s swimming and diving team has announced the addition of five freshman swimmers and one diver for the 2016-17 season.

The team will welcome John Ragsdell, Jackson Sandala, Cameron Green, Charlie Boomershine, Parker Brandenburg, and Patrick Tener.

“We are very excited about the talent and potential of this group,” Head Coach Matt Bos said.  “This class will definitely add to our depth in some needed areas and make an immediate impact with our relays.  The guys will benefit from our strength and conditioning program and it will be exciting to see where they are a few years from now.”

Ragsdell hails from Hickman High School in Columbia, Missouri, where he competed in the 200 Freestyle, 200 Butterfly, 200 IM and 400 IM.  At the MSHSAA Championships, Ragsdell placed third in the 200 and 500 Freestyle Individual events, while also nabbing second and third in the 200 Freestyle Relay and 200 Medley Relay events, respectively.  He features a 400 IM personal best time of 4:00.21, which is 2.12 seconds faster than the current record at IUPUI.  The former Kewpie also swam as part of the Columbia Swim Club.

Sandala will stay in town after swimming at Warren Central High School, while also taking part in the Warren Aquatic Club.  As a Warrior, Sandala took part in the 100 and 200 Freestyle events, while also swimming in the 100 and 200 Butterfly events.  The Indianapolis, Indiana-native features a 1:39.26 200 Freestyle personal best time, which currently bests the freshman record at IUPUI.  He also features a 50.22 100 Fly time, which is just 0.38 seconds off the program record.

Green, of Elkhart, Indiana, competed at Concord High School and the Concord Swim Club, taking part in the 100 Free, 100 Butterfly and 200 IM events.  Green was a 2016 IHSAA State Finalist in the 100 Fly, and carries a 51.65 personal best time in the event.  He will pursue his degree in Business while at IUPUI.

Boomershine, like Sandala, will also stay in town after swimming at Franklin Central High School.  He also competed for the Flashes Aquatics Club Team.  Boomershine took part in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events while also swimming in the 100 Butterfly.  The Indianapolis, Indiana-native was a 2016 IHSAA State Finalist in the 100 Fly, notching a 51.57 personal best time in the event.

Brandenburg swam at Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana, where he competed in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke and 200 Breaststroke events.  A member of the Michiana Stars Club Team, Brandenburg posted a personal best time of 59.54 in the 100 Breaststroke, while also clocking a 22.18 in the 50 Freestyle.  The former Kingsman will pursue a degree in Business while at IUPUI.

Tener rounds out the signing class as the only addition to the diving roster.  Tener hails from Glenview, Illinois, where he competed at Glenbrook South High School.  He also took part in the Glenview Aquatics Diving Club Team.  While at Glenbrook South, Tener was an IHSA State qualifier in the one-meter springboard event, while also being named the 2016 Sectional Champion in the same event.  He’ll join a diving team that saw Krisztian Somhegyi take gold in both the one-meter and three-meter springboard events at the Summit League Championships this past season, while also advancing to the NCAA Championships after finishing second at the Zone C Diving Championships.
