- Day 1 Recap
After some really solid racing on the first day of the 2024 Fullerton Sectionals meet at the Janet Evans Swim Complex, the action kept on rolling through Friday. The second day of the meet featured the 200 free, 400 IM, 100 back, and 400 medley relay.
Irvine Novaquatics 15-year-old Alyssa Ton won the women’s 200 free in 2:02.33. Ton clipped her previous best of 2:02.84, which she just swam at the LA Invite two weeks ago. She put together a well-paced race, splitting 28.65 on the opening 50, then splitting 31.22, 31.17, and 31.29 respectively on the remaining 50s.
Rising Cal junior Matthew Chai swam a 1:53.10 to win the men’s 200 free last night. That swim comes in just off Chai’s personal best of 1:52.45, which he swam earlier this year.
Lakeridge Swim Team 16-year-old Addison Sala took the women’s 400 IM in 5:03.53. She’s been as fast as 4:59.24 in her career, a time which she set last summer.
It was Irvine Novaquatics 18-year-old Dean Ko that won the men’s 400 IM, swimming a 4:35.62. Ko set his personal best of 4:34.90 at the LA Invite two weeks ago.
Fellow Irvine Novaquatics swimmer Grace Wharton, 18, won the women’s 100 back in 1:03.89. A rising freshman at UNLV, Wharton clipped her best time in the event by 0.06 seconds. She was out in 31.15 on the opening 50, then came home in 32.74.
20-year-old Robert Griswold won the men’s 100 back, swimming a 58.24.
The women’s 400 medley was won by Roadrunner Aquatic in a time of 4:34.81. Sophia Munoz-Rodriguez (1:12.35), Katelyn Kaff (1:16.95), Sarah Osborne (1:06.22), and Samara Moseley (59.29) teamed up to win the race.
In the men’s 400 medley relay, Tritons Aquatic Club’s Luigi Perez Franco (59.00), Robert Griswold (1:06.63), Aidan Rikic (58.06), and Devin Esser (52.12) combined for a 3:55.81 to win the event.
Is Chai going back to Cal? He didn’t swim this past year and not sure he swam the whole year before! The article sounds like he is going back?!?
