The University of Iowa men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams host their annual intrasquad meet Saturday at 9 a.m. (CT) at the UI Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.
“The format of our intrasquad meet goes back decades,” said Marc Long, who is in his 13th year as head coach of the Hawkeyes. “We’ve modified some of the events, like adding the diver 50 freestyle, but the basic structure has stayed the same. It’s a fun, competitive meet that allows us to compete against each other in a different format. The team gets really into the meet by dressing up and creating an exciting atmosphere.”
The Hawkeyes will split into two teams — the “Black” and “Gold” squads — and compete in 13 events throughout the meet. Competition opens with the 200-medley relay and concludes with the 200-freestyle relay.
The Hawkeyes are back in action later this month when they travel to Minneapolis for a Big Ten dual against Minnesota. The men are scheduled to compete on Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m. (CT), while the women compete on Oct. 29, beginning at 11 a.m.
