Indiana Water Polo Takes Down Saint Francis, 16-2

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University water polo team completed a perfect, 2-0 start to the team’s 2021 season at the Hoosier Invite on Saturday afternoon, defeating Saint Francis, 16-2, at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind.

With the victory, IU moves to 2-0 on the year, while Saint Francis falls to 1-1. The Hoosiers defeated Salem, 17-6, earlier on Saturday in the Hoosier Invite.

KEY MOMENTS

  • The Hoosier defense was impressive in the victory over Saint Francis, shutting out the Red Flash in the first half, allowing IU to take a commanding, 6-0.
  • Sophomore Robyn Greenslade matched her career-high with three goals, while junior Izzy Mandema also netted three scores to lead the Indiana attack.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Mary Askew earned the win for the Hoosiers, making three saves and not allowing a goal in her 16:32 minutes played. She also added her first career goal as an exclamation point on her performance.
  • Freshman Kallie White had a great game, posting two goals, two assists and two steals. Sophomore Katherine Hawkins added two goals and an assist, while junior Tina Doherty chipped in two scores, two assists and two steals.

NOTABLES

  • With the victory, Indiana has won 12-straight games dating back to the 2020 season, matching the program-record set during the 2014 campaign.
  • Also with the win, the Hoosiers improve to 5-0 in the overall series with Saint Francis.
  • With the sweep on Saturday, IU starts the season 2-0 for the first time since 2018.
  • Sophomore Zoe Crouch had a career-best three assists and a goal in the victory, while junior Lauren Etnyre matched her personal-best with two steals along with a score.
  • Sophomore Lanna Debow matched her career-high with two steals and also had a goal.
  • Junior goalkeeper Sarah Greeven notched an assist for the fourth time in her career.

  • Indiana will complete competition in the Hoosier Invite on Sunday, Feb. 7 at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind. IU will face Saint Francis at 12:00 p.m. ET, before ending the weekend against Salem at 2:00 p.m. ET.
