Ohio-based Josie Grote has made her college decision, as she’s just announced her verbal commitment to join the Indiana Hoosiers next fall. Grote, a swimmer for the Cincinnati Marlins, will be heading to IU next fall after she graduates from Saint Ursula Academy High School.
“I chose IU because of the amazing academics, swim program, campus, city, and opportunities that Indiana has to offer! Can’t wait to be a Hoosier!”
Grote was a 2-time medalist at the 2015 Ohio Division 1 State Championships, where she competed in the 200 IM and 100 breast. Her highest finish came in the 200 IM, where she clocked a personal best 2:00.91 to pick up the silver. She also came home with a bronze from the 100 breast.
Grote has competed in multiple high-level junior national meets, most recently the 2016 Speedo Summer Junior Nationals. There, she swam the 200 IM, 400 IM, and 200 free.
Grote’s Top Times:
- 200 IM- 2:00.91
- 400 IM- 4:21.87
- 100 breast- 1:03.57
- 200 breast- 2:23.08
- 50 free- 23.87
- 100 free- 51.24
- 200 free- 1:49.67
- 500 free- 4:54.22
Grote’s skillset could make her an asset for the Hoosier’s across a variety of events, including the breaststroke, freestyle, and IM races. She could be an immediate factor for the team at the Big Ten Championships, as she’s already fast enough to have scored in the 200 IM at 2016 Big Tens.
