Jordan O’Brien of Naperville, Illinois, has made a verbal commitment to join the Missouri Tigers in the fall of 2015. O’Brien made history last year when he became the first swimmer from Metea Valley High School to win an Illinois High School State Championship title. And he did it in dramatic fashion: he out-touched his MVHS teammate Matt Salerno by 1/100 (55.88 to 55.89) in the 100 breast.
O’Brien swims with Fox Valley Swim Team in Naperville. His top times over the last two seasons are:
50y breast: 25.89
100y breast: 55.58
200y breast: 2:01.75
200y IM: 1:52.33
400y IM: 4:05.82
50y free: 21.62
100y free: 47.23
O’Brien’s times are still a bit out of scoring range at SECs but his breaststroke progressions alone (59-57-55 / 2:12-2:06-2:01) over the last two years should give Missouri fans reason to be hopeful.
O’Brien is part of a recruiting class that also includes recent commits Alex Walton, Griffin Schaetzle, and Nick Staver.
“I chose Mizzou because I was very impressed with the team, coaches, and facilities. I feel that it aligns with my goals athletically and academically. I loved the atmosphere and felt that I will be able to contribute great things in the next 4 years. Go Tigers!”
