Missouri nabs another Iowa prospect in Piranhas breaststroker Nick Staver

The Missouri Tigers dipped into Iowa’s high school swimming scene for another prospect, getting a verbal from state runner-up breaststroker Nick Staver. Staver will join state champ backstroker Alex Walton in Mizzou.

Staver comes from Bettendorf, Iowa, and swims for the Piranhas Swim Club along with Pleasant Valley High School. He finished second at the Iowa high school state championships last February and is the top returner in the state.

Staver’s Top Times

  • 100 breast: 57.30
  • 200 breast: 2:05.83
  • 200 IM: 1:55.29
  • 400 IM: 4:04.31

Missouri has been red-hot in training breaststrokers as of late. Sam Tierney was a double All-American last year, but will graduate this spring. Also in his class is Igor Kozlovskij, an SEC finalist and NCAA qualifier. With those two gone by the start of the 2015 season, Staver will join SEC B finalists Eddie Mapel and Michal Rokita on the Mizzou roster.
