Illinois Freshmen Shine in Annual Orange and Blue Meet

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The University of Illinois swimming and diving team held its annual Orange and Blue Intra-squad exhibition Saturday at the ARC Pool. The Blue team defeated the Orange team for the third consecutive year, outscoring their opponent 150-114.

“Overall the team competed well and with a lot of energy,” said head coach Sue Novitsky. “It has been since at least March since the last time they were able to compete, and they definitely took advantage of the opportunity. We will continue to keep working and putting in the effort in practice.”

  • 100 Individual Medley – Michelle McCord (59.32 – Orange Team)
  • 200 Freestyle – Audrey Gingras (1:56.56 – Orange Team)
  • 100 Backstroke – Kaylee Heimes (59.12 – Blue Team)
  • 100 Breaststroke – Divya Kale (1:07.11 – Blue Team)
  • 200 Butterfly – Cara Bognar (2:04.68 – Blue Team)
  • 50 Freestyle – Laurel Bludgen (24.04 – Blue Team)
  • 100 Freestyle – Laurel Bludgen (53.28 – Blue Team)
  • 200 Backstroke  Michelle McCord (2:09.06 – Orange Team)
  • 200 Breaststroke – Kaleigh Haworth (2:27.52 – Blue Team)
  • 500 Freestyle – Cara Bognar (5:04.83 – Blue Team)
  • 100 Butterfly – Isabelle Guerra (58.49 – Orange Team)
  • 200 Individual Medley – Cara Bognar (2:08.02 – Blue Team)
  • 200 Freestyle Relay – Guerra, Lynch, Koscielski, Gingras (1:39.12 – Orange Team)

On the Boards

Sophomore diver Erin Young won both the one- and three-meter dive for the Orange team. Young earned six-dive total of 244.80 in the one-meter, before scoring a 235.65 in the three-meter.

Hitting the Mark

During the 200 medley relay, junior Abigail Cabush led off in the 50 backstroke for the Orange team, swimming a record time of 26.66, breaking the previous record of 26.76 put up by Erin Didde in 1997. Freshman Laurel Bludgen’s time of 24.04 in the 50 freestyle broke a previous time of 24.21 by Courtney Pope in 2013.
