Idaho Women Trounce Seattle U With 206-56 Final

MOSCOW, Idaho — University of Idaho women’s swimming and diving (3-1) won 13 events on the way to a 206-56 win over conference foe Seattle University (0-4) Saturday in the UI Swim Center.

The Vandals were nearly perfect to pick up their third win overall and second conference victory, earning top finishes in every event besides one. Eight different Idaho swimmers recorded event wins while also having 12 runner-up finishes.

Idaho posted their first points on the board when the 200-yard Medley Relay team consisting of Madelynn ButlerSydney HeasmanGrace Qualman, and Rylie Moxham touched the wall clocking a time of 1:45.84.

Ginger Kiefer tallied two wins for Idaho, and posted a pool record. Kiefer placed first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:23.84 while also earning a victory and a pool record in the 100 IM posting a time of 57.59.

Senior Ella Haskins earned two individual Vandal victories along with sophomore Katy Foley. Haskins swept the short-distance freestyle events, placing first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.04) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.10). Foley posted wins in the backstroke events, taking first in the 100-yard back (58.03) and in the 200-yard back (2:06.60).

Junior Bethany Rahn posted a first-place victory in the 200-yard freestyle recording a time of 1:54.31. Grace Ruble clocked in a time of 57.69 in the 100-yard butterfly to come away with a win.

Three freshman swimmers posted first-place finishes in their respective events. Rylie Moxham hit the wall in 1:05.69 in the 100-yard breaststroke to earn a victory. Charlie Zollinger was a first-place finisher in the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.07) while Holly Lenarz earned a win in the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.78).

The Idaho relay team of Isabelle Borke, Foley, Qualman, and Helen Schumaker closed out the meet posting a time of 1:35.98 in the 200-yard freestyle relay to earn their final win of the day.

Up Next

The Vandal divers will head to Flagstaff to compete in the annual Lumberjack Diving Invite. The competition will start on Thursday, Nov. 21, and will wrap up Saturday, Nov. 23.

Seattle U women’s swimming wrapped up two match ups in two days, dropping meets at Washington State (60-164) and Idaho (56-206). Despite the losses the Redhawks had several strong performances including a individual top three score from Sarah Cook.
