Hungary, Denmark Lead Way In Women’s 4×100 Free Relay (Night 3 Relay Analysis)

2024 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Hungary captured the European title in the women’s 4×100 freestyle relay finishing almost two seconds of silver medal winning Denmark.

Elisabeth Ebbesen gave Denmark a slim lead at the first exchange as she led the way with a 54.75 flat start time. That time was just off of her best time of a 54.73 that she swam earlier this year in April. Hungary’s Petra Senanszky was only 0.04 seconds behind keeping Hungary in the front of the pack.

Hungary was propelled by their flat start swimmers as well as Nikolett Padar anchored in a 53.67, the fastest split of the evening. Hungary’s relay also went on to set a National Record, breaking the old record set back in 2009.  Fellow Hungarian Panna Ugrai was the only other swimmer with a split under the 54 second mark.

Denmark’s second place finish was partly due to the fact that all swimmers split under the 55-second mark. They were the only other country to do so other than Hungary.
