Houston to Host Packed Halloween Weekend

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving Team will host a pair of dual meets this weekend as they compete against No. 21 SMU on Friday at 6 p.m. and North Texas on Saturday at 11 a.m. inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.

This weekend will serve up the Cougars’ first dual meet challenges of the year.

Last week, Houston finished third at the Rice Invitational after impressive individual podium swims. Freshman Delia Weber had a great start to her colligate career after finishing third in the 1,650-yard freestyle in a time of 17:14.62. In the 100-yard butterfly, sophomore Sharo Rodriguez finished third with a time of 57.99.

Two of the Cougar relay teams captured podium finishes. The 200-yard medley relay team of Eleanna Koutsouveli, Ashley Grijalva, Rodriguez and Doroteja Bednjanec finished third in a time of 1:46.99. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Houston captured third with the team of Bednjanec, Caitlin Horner, Emma Moore and Julie Gibson swimming a time of 1:38.61, a season best.

The Cougar divers are coming off of multiple podium finishes last week against Arkansas and the University of the Incarnate Word. Leading the way is sophomore Micaela Bouter, who was named the American Athletic Conference Female Diver of the Week on Oct. 26. Bouter won the 1-meter dive with her score of 315.45 and finished second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 322.90. Senior Danielle Shedd finished first in the 3-meter dive with her score of 330.45.

Houston will host the Phill Hansel Invitational Nov. 19-21 inside the CRWC Natatorium, and the diving team will travel to the Texas Diving Invitational Nov. 19-21 at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.

COUGARS TO HOST AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Houston will host the American Athletic Conference Championships for the first time as the best swimmers and divers in the league visit the CRWC from Feb. 17-20, 2016. Following the conference meet, the Cougars will look to close the season at the NCAA Championships, to be held March 17-19, 2016 in Atlanta.
