University of Tampa swimmers Martin Hammer and Runar Borgen have both set new Norwegian national records at the Settecolli Trophy. Hammer, who finished fourth at the NCAA Division II Championships in the men’s 50 yard freestyle, set a new Norwegian mark in the 50 freestyle Friday morning posting a 22.77.

His time was a huge improvement on his previous best of 23.29, which he recorded in 2015. Hammer beat the previous record of 22.86 set by Thomas Ole Fadnes in 2009. He competed in the B-final finishing eighth in a time of 22.96.

Borgen set a new national record in the men’s 50 butterfly posting a time of 24.18 in the prelims this morning. He beat his own record of 24.21, a time he put up last year. Borgen will be swimming out of lane two in tonight’s final.

Both swimmers were part of the University of Tampa‘s 200 freestyle relay, which took gold at this year’s NCAA Division II Championships.

It’s too bad this will scroll off too quickly on SwimSwam. These 2 men are amazing workers, both in and out of the water. They will do great things in life. Great job, Hammer and RB! #sprintsquad
