H2Okies set for ACC clashes against Pitt and Notre Dame

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech swimming and diving team will travel to Pitt this weekend where the H2Okies will face the host Panthers and Notre Dame in ACC competition on Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. Both days of action will be streamed live on the WatchESPN platform.
After a week off, the H2Okies return to the pool with H2Okie men (4-0, 1-0 ACC) ranked No. 9 and the women’s squad (3-1, 0-1 ACC) receiving votes in the CSCAA Coaches poll. Tech last competed against Duke, West Virginia and William & Mary at the Christiansburg aquatics Center where the women went 2-1 and the men went 3-0 in their dual meets.
Last time out, sophomore Norbert Szabo led the men on the second day of action where he took first in the 200 with a time of 1:39.59 and a 15:47.26 in the 1650 free. The Budapest native also swam the first leg of Tech’s 400 medley relay team that turned in a top time of 3:00.44. Senior Jessica Hespeler and junior Klaudia Nazieblo each won two events for the women’s squad and sophomore Ashlynn Peters placed second in the one-meter after taking first in the three-meter event on day one.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Pitt: Men – 2-2, 1-2 ACC; Women – 3-1, 2-1 ACC
Notre Dame: No. 16 Men – 4-0, 1-0 ACC; No. 24 Women 7-0, 2-0 ACC
- Pitt boasts a strong men’s unit that feature senior diver Dominic Giordano, who has won consecutive ACC Diver of the Week awards the last two weeks.
- The Fighting Irish women won three duals last weekend against Miami, Rutgers and Purdue and saw freshman Abbie Dolan post a pool record a 1:47.14 in the 200 free.
