Pitt Ready to Host Meet Versus ACC Powers

The Panthers Will Face Notre Dame and Virginia Tech This Weekend

PITTSBURGH—The Pitt swimming & diving teams will compete at home this weekend in their first two-day meet of the season as the Panthers welcome ACC rivals Notre Dame and Virginia Tech to Trees Pool for action on Friday (starting at 4 p.m.) and Saturday (starting at 10 a.m.).

After earning a comfortable win over Buffalo last Friday, the Pitt women (3-1, 2-1 ACC) look to make a statement to the entire conference of their credentials to compete in the top half of the ACC this year. Meanwhile, the Pitt men (2-2, 1-2 ACC) are coming off a narrow victory against the Bulls and have an opportunity to impress again versus nationally ranked opponents in the Fighting Irish and Hokies.

Pitt head coach John Hargis will lead the Panthers into conference action at home for the first time during his tenure, facing two programs that have traditionally finished towards the top of the ACC.

On the men’s side, Virginia Tech is currently ranked No. 9 with Notre Dame sitting at No. 16. In the women’s rankings, Notre Dame is at No. 24 while Virginia Tech is just outside of the top 25 at No. 27.

Both days of the meet will be streamed live on the ACC Network Extra and via the WatchESPN app.

The Panthers will be led by national-caliber divers Dominic Giordano, who was recently named ACC Male Diver of the Week for the second straight week, and Meme Sharp. In the pool, the Pitt men will rely on the likes of Henrique Machado, Zach Lierley and Spencer Gray, while the Panthers’ women’s team will showcase the talents of Amanda Richey, Kinga Cichowska, Valerie Daigneault and others as Pitt’s top swimmers test themselves against some of the best the ACC has to offer.

Admission is free for all fans for both days as the Panthers take on nationally ranked ACC foes.
