WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University swimming & diving team closed out the regular season on a high note, cruising to a sweep over BIG EAST opponents Seton Hall and Providence in a two-day tri-meet. In dual meet scoring, the Hoya men defeated the Pirates 196-155 and the Friars 276-68. The GU women won by scores of 231.5-119-5 over Seton Hall and 273-79 over Providence. The meet took place at the Berkeley Aquatic Center in New Providence, New Jersey.
HOYA WOMEN FRIDAY
- The Hoyas won four of the five individual events held on Friday, and also touched the wall first in the 400-yard medley relay.
- Cristina Barrett led a GU sweep in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:05.09. She barely edged out Corey Moon while Noelle Fimbres placed third.
- Georgetown also swept the 200-yard IM as Alexandra Robertson won in 2:06.94. Phoebe Slaughter and Alexandra Rieker finished second and third, respectively.
- On the diving boards, the Hoyas again took the top three spots in both events. Margaret Barnhorst won the 1-meter dive ahead of Riley Fujioka and Naomi Peng, while Fujioka claimed the 3-meter event with Peng and Barnhorst right behind her.
HOYA WOMEN SATURDAY
- The Hoyas won their second and third relays of the weekend with victories in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
- Robertson completed the sweep of the individual medleys with a narrow victory in the 4000-yard IM. She registered her third win of the meet in the 100-yard freestyle.
- Barrett was again atop a GU sweep in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing just ahead of Lauren Rutledge and Fimbres.
- Megan Smith and Samantha Kim comfortably took the top two spots in the 100-yard breaststroke, while Grace Chen and Rieker finished 1-2 in the 100-yard backstroke.
- Fimbres pulled out a win of her own in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing five seconds ahead of Moon who took second.
GEORGETOWN MEN FRIDAY
- The Hoyas claimed all five individual victories as well as winning the 400-yard medley relay.
- Drew Carbone touched the wall first in the 200-yard IM in a time of 1:52.22. Connor Morikawa and Michael Baldini finished second and third, respectively, to complete the sweep.
- Brett Sherman cruised to a five-second victory in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:33.05, while Sean Devlin just outstretched his opponent in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.23 seconds.
- Joseph Hofman swept the diving events, winning comfortably on both boards. Matthew Werner finished second in the 3-meter event.
GEORGETOWN MEN SATURDAY
- The Blue & Gray took both of Saturday’s relays to win three of four on the weekend.
- Carbone swept the backstroke events comfortably to earn his second and third wins of the meet.
- Sherman picked up his second win of the meet with a four-second victory in the 400-yard IM.
- Morikawa won the 100-yard breaststroke, while finishing second in the 200 behind teammate Carlson Temple.
COMING UP NEXT
The Hoyas will next prepare for the 2020 BIG EAST Championships which will be held Feb. 26-29 at the Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow, New York. The meet will be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN).

New Providence, N.J. – The Pirates completed the two day Berkeley Aquatics Tri-Meet beating BIG EAST rival Providence 229-114 while falling to Georgetown 231.5-119.5.
Picking up two more individual wins on Day Two for the pirates was freshman Sierra Cripps (Seymour, Conn.). Cripps paced the pool in both the 100 and 200 fly finishing with times of 57.32 and 2:05.87, respectively.
Also picking up an individual victory for The Hall was Marianne Molloy (Toms River, N.J.) in the 200 back. Molloy touched the wall first in a time of 2:06.49.
In the 200 breaststroke, Lexi Kolodgie (Baltimore, Md.) earned a first place finish when she completed the event in a time of 2:24.98.
Senior Elizabeth Sargent (Trumbull, Conn.) helped lead the way for the Pirates on Saturday afternoon. Sargent took second in the 400 IM, completing the swim in a time of 4:29.44.
New Providence, N.J. – The Pirates completed the two day Berkeley Aquatics Tri-Meet beating BIG EAST rival Providence 277-64 while falling to Georgetown 195-155.
Helping to lead the Pirates was sophomore Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.). LaClair took first in both the 100 and 200 free on Day Two after taking first in the 200 free relay and second in the 500 free on Day One. In the 100 free, LaClair touched the wall in a time of 46.66 while taking the 200 free in a time of 1:42.20.
Freshman Justin Oosterwyk (Pequannock, N.J.) was also an individual winner for the Pirates on Saturday afternoon. Oosterwyk took home first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.60.
Also earning individual wins for The Hall was Liam Cosgrove (Sea Girt, N.J.) in the 100 fly with a time of 51.38 and Caleb Smith (Charlottesville, Va.) in the 1000 free with a time of 9:57.02
Fellow freshman Ross Pantano (Bennington, Neb.) also swam a solid Day Two with three second-place finishes. Pantano managed to secure second in the 200 medley relay, 100 back and 200 back. Pantano completed both the 100 and 200 back with times of 50.70 and 152.50, respectively.
This was the final tune-up for the Pirates before they go on to compete in the BIG EAST Championship on Long Island, N.Y. at the Nassau Aquatic Center from Feb. 26-29. Full session tickets can be purchased for the championship through this link.

New Providence, N.J.– The Providence College Friars traveled to New Jersey on Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1 to compete in a tri-meet with the Seton Hall Pirates and the Georgetown Hoyas. The Friars were defeated by the Pirates and the Hoyas on both the men’s and the women’s sides.
