WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams both captured wins over Johns Hopkins at McCarthy Pool Friday evening. The women’s team downed the Blue Jays 177-112 while the men’s team secured a 159-132 victory.

“I was really happy with the energy we brought tonight,” said Head Coach Jack Leavitt. “It’s been a while since we’ve raced and both teams stepped up. Looking forward to recovering as much as possible and getting back to it tomorrow.”

WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Hoyas took first and second place in the 200 medley relay with Allie SanchezAlex Breuer, Bella Wylie and Genevieve Youngman clocking a time of 1:46.03 and Maddie HaleySamantha KimInes Lovato and Angelica Reali finished with a time of 1:48.27.
  • Corey Moon earned a first-place finish in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:23.41. Moon added a second-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:05.30.
  • Sophia Ribeiro picked up a second-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.28.
  • Haley (58.83) and Sanchez (58.99) went 1-2  in the 100 backstroke.
  • Breuer captured first-place 100 (1:06.06) and the 200 (1:23.38) breaststroke.
  • Reali (2:06.76) and Sammy Hagberg (2:07.98) took first and second in the 200 butterfly. Reali also picked up a first place finish in the 200 backstroke (1:04.93) and the 100 butterfly (56.63).
  • Emilie Ginovker (260.10), Wynter Bramao (248.48) and Sara Warm (213.98) swept the 3m dive. Ginovker and Bramao also tied for first place in the 1m dive with a score of 220.05.

The Hoyas will be back in action at McCarthy Pool tomorrow at noon to face George Washington University. The Hoyas will be honoring their 14 seniors in a ceremony before the meet.

WASHINGTON, DC – Graduate student Kristen Alicea-Jorgensen and sophomore Kristen Cornish led the Johns Hopkins women’s swim team with three wins at Georgetown Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays also grabbed a relay win over the Hoyas.

Hopkins kicked off the meet with third and fourth-place finishes in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of junior Makenzie Higgins, sophomore Taylor Rohovit, senior Emerson Davis and Alicea-Jorgensen swam a time of 1:48.99. Senior Chase Lahr, freshmen Katherine Chelus and Alia Basler, and sophomore Michelle Liu finished in 1:50.87.

Cornish then grabbed the top spot in the 200 Free as she clocked in at 1:52.85. Freshman Claire Han followed in third place with a time of 1:54.50. Higgins took third place in the 100 Back as she finished in 1:00.21. Freshman Rachel Davis and Chelus then went two-three in the 100 Breast. Rachel Davis swam a time of 1:07.66, and Chelus finished in 1:08.38. Emerson Davis placed third in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:08.79.

Alicea-Jorgensen then won the 50 Free as she touched the wall in 24.17. Basler finished in fourth place with a time of 25.13. The Blue Jays followed with second, third and fourth-place finishes in the 100 Free. Han took second place with a time of 53.62 – just eight-hundredths of a second out of first. Freshman Alex Watson placed third in 53.96 and sophomore Megan Craven then placed fourth in 55.47.

Higgins grabbed second place in the 200 Back as she clocked in at 2:05.75. Liu followed with a third-place finish in the 200 Breast and a time of 2:26.31. Cornish picked up her second win of the day as she cruised to a first-place finish in the 500 Free in 4:59.21. Sophomore Meg Susil finished in fourth place with a swim of 5:10.81.

Emerson Davis picked up another third-place finish in the Fly, as she finished the 100 in 59.30. JHU ended the night with a win in the 200 Free Relay. Liu, graduate student Sophia Girgenti, Han and Alicea-Jorgensen finished with a time of 1:37.01 to beat the Hoyas by more than 1.8 seconds.

Hopkins returns to the pool on Friday, February 3 at the Cavalier Invitational.

WASHINGTON, DC – The Johns Hopkins men’s swim team picked up seven wins in a tightly contested dual meet at Georgetown Friday afternoon. Senior Kyle Wu and junior Kellen Roddy led the Blue Jays with two individual wins each.

Roddy picked up the first of his two wins in the 1000 Free as he led the field with a swim of 9:27.23. He then won the 500 Free as he clocked in with a time of 4:34.36. Sophomore Jonik Surprenant clocked in at 10:01.00 for third place in the 1000 Free.

Wu swept the Breaststroke events to earn his two wins. He won the 100 with a time of 56.35, beating the field by more than 1.2 seconds. He then won the 200, by nearly two seconds, with a time of 2:02.48. Sophomore Joe Castagno placed fourth the 200 Breast in 2:08.16. Wu also swam the lead-off leg on the winning 200 Free Relay team. Wu, freshman Avery Clapp, junior Jay Heymann and senior Spencer Ryan won the relay in 1:24.37. The Blue Jays beat the Hoyas by four-hundredths of a second for the win.

Freshman Bryce Lloyd led a one-two punch for the Blue Jays in the 100 Back. He grabbed the win with a time of 51.83. Senior Steven Rua followed in second place with a swim of 52.19. Clapp completed JHU’s sweep of the Back events, as he won the 200 in 1:53.02. Junior Alex Ren finished in fourth place in 1:56.40.

Hopkins opened the meet with second and fourth-place finishes in the 200 Medley Relay. Rua, Wu, Clapp and Ryan took second place in 1:32.78, just three-hundredths of a second out of first. Lloyd, junior Justin Limberg, and freshmen Andrew Huang and Christian Mayr finished in fourth with a time of 1:35.49.

Sophomores Daniel Byrnes and Eric Ji went two-three in the 200 Free. Byrnes finished in 1:44.53, while Ji touched in 1:45.00. Clapp and Huang turned the same trick in the 200 Fly. Clapp took second place with a swim of 1:52.67 and Huang swam a 1:54.88. Ryan and Mayr continued the trend of second and third-place finishes for the Blue Jays in the 50 Free. Ryan took second place in 21.36 and Mayr followed in third in 21.87.

Hopkins then went three-four-five in the 100 Free. Mayr led the trio with a third-place finish and a time of 47.88. Lloyd took fourth in 48.32 and Heymann placed fourth in 48.64. Ryan then finished in second place in the 100 Fly as he clocked in at 51.14. Junior Reef Ide followed in third place with a time of 52.26. The Blue Jays went two-three again, this time in the 200 IM. Sophomore Nathan Jin finished in 1:55.92 for second place, beating Huang just 0.14 seconds.

Hopkins returns to action in two weeks at the Cavalier Invitational in Charlottesville, VA.
