For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Jane Sanderson of New Trier Aquatics has verbally committed to join Emory’s class of 2026.

Congrats to SHP athlete & Athlete representative to the Board Jane Sanderson on her commitment to continue her athletic and academic journey at Emory University. A Futures, NCSA & High School state qualifier in Freestyle & Backstroke & IM events, Jane looks to study Political Science & Spanish. She will no doubt be a force on Eagle relays as she lives for that anchor leg! Congrats Jane! #goeagles #swimming #classof2022”

The Illinois-native, who qualifies for Futures in the 100 and 200 backstroke, is moving southwest to join the Eagles’ backstroke and sprint crew.

Top SCY Times:

  • 200 back – 2:04.14
  • 100 back – 57.76
  • 50 free – 24.13
  • 100 free – 53.12

Her lifetime best times would have placed Sanders in the 200 back A final, in the B final of the 100 back and 50 free, and in the C final of the 100 free at 2020 University Athletic Association Championships.

She swam her fastest 200 backstroke at the age of 14 in 2019 and recently came within .11 of it in March. She clocked her lifetime best 100 back time this year in February.

Sophomore Savannah Sowards is at the helm of Emory’s backstroke group. She placed 6th with a 56.45 in the 100 back at the 2020 UAA Championships and 7th in the 200 back 2:02.99. The Eagles also had sophomore Gaige Elms place 2nd in 200 back with a 2:01.18 that year, but she is not on the roster for the 2021-2022 season.

DIII powerhouse Emory opted out of the 2020-2021 athletic season, but they are the 10-time defending DIII NCAA champions. The Eagles won the 2020 UAA Championships on both the men’s and women’s sides under head coach Jon Howell.

She joins butterfly specialist Lily Consiglio and backstroker Sophia Mruk in the Eagles class of 2026 commitments.
