Former Gainesville Swim Coach Joseph ‘Joey’ Diaz Sentenced to 60 Years in Prison

Former Gainesville, Florida swim coach Joseph Michael Diaz has been sentenced to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of “producing child pornography.”

Diaz was arrested in April, 2014 on two charges involving possession of, and promotion of, child pornography.

In addition to his prison sentence, Diaz was ordered to pay $78,000 in restitution to the victims.

Diaz was a “behavioral resource teacher” for kindergarten through fourth grade at High Springs Community School and was a part-time coach for the USA Swimming Makos Aquatic Club.

Diaz was banned for life by USA Swimming in July, 2014.
