Bronx, N.Y. – (October 11, 2024) – The Fordham swimming & diving team opened its 2024-25 season on Friday evening, as the Rams swept their dual meet against Manhattan College at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.

The Fordham men posted a 156.5-83.5 victory over the Jaspers, while the women toppled Manhattan, 186-62.  Fordham won almost every event on Friday with seven Rams capturing the top spot in multiple events.

On the women’s side, Emma Shaughnessy won both the 50 freestyle (24.95) and 200 IM (2:11.23), while Leire Martin took home the 100 butterfly (58.54) and the 100 backstroke (58.20).  Ainhoa Martin grabbed first in the 50 breaststroke (30.71) and 500 freestyle (5:06.37) with Mya Bokerman sweeping the diving events with scores of 272.40 (1M) and 270.45 (3M).

Other individual winners included Hope Nolan in the 200 freestyle (1:56.79), Jessica Zebrowski in the 50 backstroke (28.76), Allison Kim in the 100 freestyle (55.06), Mackenzie Fischer in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.68), and Madeline Bergin in the 50 butterfly (27.36).

In the relays, L. Martin, Shaughnessy, Zebrowski, and A. Martin won the 200 medley relay in 1:46.74, while L. Martin, Zebrowski, Zoei Howard, and A. Martin grabbed first in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:39.46.

For the men, Daniel Ribeiro was a dual event winner on his first night as a Ram, taking first in the 50 freestyle (21.13) and the 100 backstroke (50.93), while Christian Taylor won the 200 freestyle (1:43.48) and the 50 butterfly (22.36).  Marco Petit was the last dual event winner, sweeping the diving with scores of 236.40 (1M) and 223.80 (3M).

Other winners included Brian Desmond in the 50 backstroke (24.09), Kevin Zahariev in the 50 breaststroke (T-1st – 26.76), Noah Althoff in the 100 butterfly (51.88), Taz Kanjanakaset in the 100 freestyle (47.39), Jesse Abramson in the 500 freestyle (4:50.58), and Daniel Langlois in the 200 IM (1:55.60).

The Rams also swept the two relay events, as Ribeiro, David Topi, Onu, and Althoff won the 200 medley relay in 1:32.83, while Taylor, Onu, Alexander Shah, and Althoff took home the 200 freestyle relay in 1:24.50.

Fordham will next be in action on Saturday, October 19th, when the Rams host NYU for a 10:00 AM meet at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
