Florida coach Gregg Troy may have shifted his focus to his duties as the head coach of the 2012 U.S. Women’s Olympic Team, but the restructuring that Florida put into their program is paying off on the recruiting trails this season. The Florida men got an early recruit from Arthur Frayler, and women’s associate head coach Martin Wilby has already landed their second top-40 recruit in the early-going with the signing of Ashlee Linn out of the Sarasota YMCA program. Linn will join a freshman class that already includes Lindsay McKnight.
Linn is a backstroker, with bests of 54.67 and 1:56.40 in the 100 and 200 backstrokes. Modest improvements in either could put her in a B-final as early as her freshman year. She could also be a great free-relay piece (which Florida will need many of after their graduations this year), with yards-bests of 50.71/1:48.92 in the 100 and 200 freestyles.
Linn had a very good summer in long course, including a 2:16.07 in the 200 backstroke at USA Swimming Nationals in the C-final. That time scored her first Olympic Trials cut.
Driscoll is headed to Cal Berkley
florida already is having a good recruit season despite it only being a couple weeks underway. i wouldnt be surprised to see Lauren Driscoll commit to Florida next, it just seems like such a given. i mean they are perfect for her, distance free/IM/Backstroke (lochte/beisel, etc etc) not to mention she lives in florida as well!
Great news…another terrific pick-up for the gators. Ashlee will fit in nicely. She is a great competitor. Let’s see who commits next. Florida appears to be building a powerhouse for the next few years.
