Florida State Retains Assistant Andy Robins Under New Administration

New Florida State head coach Frank Bradley has decided to retain assistant coach Andy Robins as he builds his new staff for the Seminoles.

Bradley, who has been in Tallahassee for about two weeks after being hired away from Auburn, retained the services of the man responsible for training the Florida State sprint group that has been by far their most successful over their last few seasons. That includes ACC record-breaking relays in both the 200 medley and 200 free on the men’s side, as well as the double ACC sprint champion Tiffany Oliver on the women’s side.

Robins was the associate head coach under old coach Neal Harper, which is a position he is expected to retain headed into his 10th season with the program. Florida State is the only collegiate program where Robins has been on staff, though he’s been in Tallahassee much, much longer than that: he spent 13 seasons with the ATAC swim club, Tallahassee’s primary club team.

Robins’ work as a sprint coach shows that sometimes, a swimmer’s own specialty isn’t necessarily what they’re best suited to coach. In college at William & Mary in the 80’s, he was the school record breaker in the 1650 freestyle.

He holds a Masters’ degree from Florida State as well.

Coleman Weibley has also been retained in his role of Director of Operations for the program, while a search has begun to fill out the rest of the staff.
