For the fifth time in seven weeks of competition this season, the #34 FGCU swimming & diving team has swept the CCSA weekly awards as junior Sommer Harrishas been named the CCSA Swimmer of the Week while senior Ashley Wright has earned CCSA Diver of the Week honors, league officials announced Wednesday afternoon.

The Swimmer of the Week award marks the first of the season and career for Harris, while Wright takes home the Diver of the Week award for the fifth time this season and the 11th time in her two-year career. As a team, FGCU has now earned a total of 11 weekly honors in seven weeks of competition, including its fifth sweep of the awards.

Harris (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine’s School), whose primary event is the breaststroke, not only competed in the 100 fly in the Eagles’ dual meet against CCSA-foe UNC Asheville last Sunday, but also won the event by more than two seconds as she touched the pads in 56.93 seconds. In addition to setting a personal-record in the event, her time also currently registers as a top-15 time in the conference this season.

Along with her individual win, the Richmond, Va., native was also a member of FGCU’s 200 free relay team that clocked a time of 1:40.89 and finished runner-up to another Eagle quartet in the event. Harris turned in a 50-yard split of 24.24 seconds, which was good for the third-fastest in the field.

Wright (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Indian River State/Lincoln Park Academy) once again led the FGCU divers in its first-ever dual against Clemson last Wednesday. The Port St. Lucie native finished second in the one-meter dive and seventh in the three-meter event. Her total of 262.35 off the one-meter board came up less than three points shy of surpassing the NCAA Zone Diving Standard for the third time in the event this season, while she tallied 227.50 points off the three-meter board.

In a year and a half with the Green and Blue, Wright continues to rewrite the FGCU record books as she holds five of the Eagles’ top-10 all-time marks in the one-meter dive and four in the three-meter event.
