Fast-Rising Backstroker Braedan Leach Gives Verbal to Tennessee

Braedan Leach of Memphis, Tennessee has made a verbal commitment to swim for University of Tennessee starting in the fall of 2017. Leach is a homeschooled senior who began swimming year-round in early 2013. Three and a half years later he’s a national-level backstroker with Memphis Thunder Aquatic Club, ready to take on collegiate swimming with the Vols.

Leach has competed at the TISCA Tennessee High School Swimming and Diving Championships on behalf of the Memphis Home Education Association. To give an idea of how much he has improved over the years, here are his results individual results:

2014-15 State Meet

  • 100 back – 53.78 – 16th
  • 100 fly – 57.33 – 43rd
  • 50 back on 200 medley relay – 25.59 – exhibition
  • 50 free relay split – 23.65 – 16th

2015-16 State Meet

  • 100 back – 51.22 – 11th
  • 100 fly – 55.67 – 36th
  • 50 back on 200 medley relay – 24.20 (23.84 in prelims) – 5th
  • 50 free relay leadoff – 23.80 – 14th

Leach competed in the 100/200 backstroke events at 2015 Speedo Winter Juniors East, and then again last summer at 2016 Speedo Summer Juniors. At the long course version of the meet he finished 21st in the 200m back (2:06.59) and 45th in the 100m back (59.24).

His best SCY times are:

  • 50 back – 23.84
  • 100 back – 51.22
  • 200 back – 1:50.53
  • 100 fly – 55.67
  • 100 free – 52.47

Leach will join the Vols with fellow class of 2021 commits Joshua Walsh and Stephen Lucht.
