18-year-old Eneli Jefimova already produced a new Estonian national record of 1:05.86 while competing in the women’s 100m breaststroke final last night at the Helsinki Swim Meet. But the Olympic medalist doubled down with a new standard in the 50m breast today.
We reported how Jefimova nailed a morning swim of 29.89 to snag the top-seeded result out of the heats.
That represented her first-ever outing under the 30-second barrier, overtaking her previous Estonian benchmark of 30.08 she put on the books at the 2022 World Championships.
Flash forward to this evening and Jefimova dropped even more time, firing off a massive 29.83 to prove her prelim swim was anything but a fluke.
Jefimova captured the gold this evening ahead of runner-up Veera Kivirinta of the host nation who scored silver in 30.92. Fellow Estonian Egle Salu bagged the bronze in 31.08.
Jefimova now ranks as the 10th-best performer in history. Additionally, both of Jefimova’s sub-30-second performances here check in as the only results under that barrier worldwide this season.

The World Aquatics ‘A’ standard for this summer’s World Championships sits at 30.75, so the Estonian ace easily cleared that threshold to add the event to her Singapore lineup.
Jefimova is no stranger to an international podium in the 50m breast, having accumulated an impressive collection of medals in her young career.
