The FINA Men’s Water Polo World League Super Final 2020 is taking place in Tbilisi (GEO) from June 26 to July 1 and will gather eight of the world’s best teams. The Super Final is an ultimate rehearsal for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic tournament starting on July 24 in Tokyo (JPN) and an opportunity for the players to measure their level against their biggest opponents.
Eight teams have been selected through the preliminary stages. The groups’ composition for the Tbilisi tournament are as follows:
Group A: Japan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Italy
Group B: Montenegro, USA, Greece, France

Day 1 – June 26, 2021
- 14:45 – MNE v USA
- 16:30 – JPN v GEO
- 18:15 – GRE v FRA
- 20:00 – KAZ v ITA
Day 2 – June 27, 2021
- 14:45 – KAZ v FRA
- 16:30 GEO v MNE
- 18:150 – ITA v GRE
- 20:00 – JPN v USA
Day 3 – June 28, 2021
- 14:45 – GRE v KAZ
- 16:30 – USA v GEO
- 18:15 – MNE v JPN
- 20:00 – FRA v ITA
The three first days will then be followed with the knockout stage of quarterfinals and semifinals starting on June 29, before the teams advance to their final match on July 1.
Originally scheduled to take place last year, the Super Final 2020 was later postponed due to pandemic restrictions.
Montenegro, Italy and Greece are the most experienced teams and the tournament’s favourites for the gold. Team Serbia, not taking part this year, won the latest edition of the World League 2019, defeating Croatia 12-11 (1-3, 5-2, 1-3, 5-3) in the final.
