The 2025 Antwerp Diamond Speedo Race wrapped up from Belgium last night but not before 20-year-old Milou van Wijk ripped a head-turning performance in the women’s 100m freestyle.
After taking the top seed in a morning effort of 54.04, van Wijk took things to an entirely other level to stop the clock at 53.18 en route to gold in the final.
The next-closest swimmer was Florine Gaspard of Belgium who turned in a time of 54.62 while teammate Lotte Vanhauwaert rounded out the podium well behind in 57.14.
As for van Wijk, her swim represented a big-time personal best. Entering this competition, van Wijk’s career-quickest 100m freestyle was represented by the 53.51 notched just last month at the Flanders Swimming Cup. That result was just the 2nd time the budding star had ever been under the 54-second barrier.
Van Wijk’s new 53.18 PB keeps her ranked as the 5th-swiftest Dutch woman in history, surrounded by some very impressive company. (Splits were not available at time of publishing)
