Women’s Recap
PHILADELPHIA – The women’s swimming and diving team kicked off homecoming weekend by defeating the Towson Tigers, 160-140.
The Dragons honored their 10 seniors before the meet started. Among the 10 were Katie Caputo, Becca Demaree, Hannah Jordan, Victoria Palochik, Paige Powell, Megan Sicinski, Olivia Shaffer, Ryann Styer, Alex Temple and Jordan Washart.
Drexel recorded two wins in relay races. Aldercy Bui, Sicinski, Palochik and Lera Nasedkina finished first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.81. Palochik and Nasedkina joined Paige Powell and Chelsea Gravereaux in the 200 free relay, where they won first place with a time of 1:35.32. The 200 free relay team set the pool record with their performance.
The Dragons dominated the individual freestyle events. In addition to those two first-place finishes, Nasedkina also finished first in the 50 free with a time of 23.44. Gravereaux won first place in the 100 free with a time of 52.09. Powell touched the wall first in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.63. Maddie Riley won the 500 free with a time of 5:04.47.
In the 100 breast, Sicinski touched the wall with a time of 1:05.18 to earn a first-place finish.
Fede Nocera continued her top-notch rookie season with three first-place finishes. She won the 100 back with a time of 56.34, the 200 back with a time of 2:01.30, and the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.38.
On the boards, Drexel had a great showing. In the one-meter dive, Demaree finished in second place with a 268.95, which is a Zone cut for the 2022 NCAA Division I Women’s Championship. In the three-meter dive, Hannah Jordan placed second with 259.01 and Cora Hochstetler finished in third place with a 248.78.
The Dragons turn their attention to the conference championship on February 16-19. The four-day event will occur at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center in Christiansburg, Va.

Men’s Recap
PHILADELPHIA – It was a big day for the Drexel men’s swimming and diving program, as it defeated the defending CAA champions, Towson, on Saturday. Before its 153-147 win, Drexel celebrated seven seniors to open homecoming weekend.
Alex Flynn, Brendan Houle, Carson Huff, John Klein, Paris Raptis, John Scully and Kevin Spear were celebrated before the meet for their efforts in the swimming pool.
Alessio Gianni put together a terrific performance, as he finished the day with three first-place finishes. He finished first in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.53, the 200 back with a time of 1:50.01, and the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.08.
Will Soleo earned the first of seven first-place finishes for Drexel with a time of 9:50.00 in the 1000 free. Later on, Scully touched the wall first in the 50 free with a time of 20.98. Scully also was a part of the 200 free relay team that placed second, and he finished third in the 100 free.
Raptis celebrated his senior day with two first-place finishes. He won the 200 fly with a time of 1:48.50, breaking the pool record. The senior then followed it up with a win in the 100 fly, touching the wall in 49.09. He also finished second in the 200 IM and the 200 medley relay.
On the boards, Drexel put on a clinic. In the one-meter event, Jack Patton led the way with a 285.67. Finishing just .07 points behind was Will Seely (285.60). In the 3M diving event, Drexel swept the podium with Seely finishing first with 276.45, Patton placing second (256.57) and Peter Soares finishing third with 213.75.
Next up for the Dragons will be the CAA championships in Christianburg, Va. The championship meet will take place from February 16-19.

Women’s Recap
PHILADELPHIA – In the final road dual meet of the 2021-22 season, the Towson University women’s swimming and diving team was edged at Drexel Saturday afternoon, falling 160-140 at the Dragons’ home pool at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
Meagan Clark picked up two individual wins in two different disciplines while diver Sarah DiGaetano hit an NCAA Zone Qualifying Score on the 1-meter board. Tiffany Matulis and Samantha Casolo each put in two top-three individual finishes while Karlee Carminati had third-place times in the distance events.
How it Happened
- The Tigers led the day with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing just over a second back as Parker Schulz, Matulis, Hailey Ritter and Maddie Mince finished in 1 minute, 47.01 seconds. The winning time was 1:45.81.
- In a tight 1,000-yard freestyle race, with just six seconds between first and third, Clark emerged on top in 10:16.19, the fastest 1,000 yard swim for a Tiger this season. Carminati finished six seconds later in third with a 10:22.23.
- Katie Nunez and Bridget Thomas finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle as the former went in at 1:56.30 while the latter finished less than a half-second later in 1:56.64.
- The Tigers went 3-4-5 in the 100-yard backstroke, paced by a third-place finish from Parker Schulz (57.77). Victoria Dichak touched fourth in 59.58 while Maddie Frick was fifth at 59.86.
- Matulis snagged second-place points in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:06.18, followed by Tink Tompkins (1:09.56) in fourth.
- It was a Towson sweep in the 200-yard butterfly, paced by a winning time of 2:08.65 from Casolo. Laura Gaffney took second in 2:11.51 while Holly Greenleaf was third in 2:13.39, a half-second ahead of Drexel’s first swimmer.
- The tightest race of the day came in the splash and dash as Maddie Mince finished second in 24.45, just one hundredth of a second behind first place (24.44). Ritter took third in 24.50 to round out a narrow top three.
- Schulz finished third in the 100-yard freestyle (52.48) with Nunez close behind in fourth (52.96). Ava Enriquez was fifth at 53.63.
- Suzannah Mills took third in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:06.13.
- Clark snagged her second win of the day, taking the 200 yard breaststroke by over a second, stopping the clock in 2:22.65. Matulis was third in 2:27.66 while Greenleaf was fourth at 2:29.62.
- Rookie Bridget Thomas was second overall in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5:08.86. Carminati was third in the race with a 5:11.96.
- Towson picked up first- and third-place points in the 100-yard butterfly as Ritter won in 56.65 with Casolo in less than two seconds later at 58.18. Mince was fourth at 58.35.
- Mills, Nunez and Enriquez stacked points in the 200-yard IM as Mills finished second in 2:12.00. Nunez (2:12.09) and Enriquez (2:16.10) took third and fourth, respectively,
- In the final swimming event, the Tigers took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Mince, Ritter, Clark and Schulz combined for a 1:36.15.
- On the boards, DiGaetano grabbed first place in the 1-meter event, hitting a Zone Diving Qualifying score of 271.28, a 13-point season best. Christina Coleman took third with a score of 257.85.
- Coleman won the 3-meter competition, scoring a 273.60 to improve her season-best by over 10 and a half points. DiGaetano was fourth with a 245.47 while Hayley Beutel finished fifth with a 243.68, a 12-point improvement on the year.

Men’s Recap
PHILADELPHIA – In one of the tightest meets this season, the Towson University men’s swimming and diving team was nipped by just seven points, falling at Drexel University 147-153 Saturday afternoon.
Brian Benzing was a double event winner at the Daskalakis Athletic Center pool, aiding in a pair of relay wins as well. Ryan Baldino notched first- and second-place finishes while also aiding the relay wins. Ajani Dorner finished third in a very close 1-meter diving competition, with just five points between first and third.
How it Happened
- The Tigers led the day off with a half-second win in the 200-medley relay, finishing in 1 minute, 30.64 seconds. Towson’s A Team was comprised of Evan Bota, Benzing, Nick McClure and Michael Fazio. The Tigers’ B Team of Reed Sells, Noah Diacumakos, Trey Adkins and Ryan Baldino was third (1:33.25).
- Blakely Dean took third for the Tigers in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing just three seconds adrift from first with a 9:53.64. Patrick Flint finished third three seconds later at 9:56.32.
- Fazio and Luke Schwar went second and third in the 200-yard freestyle, the former going in 1:43.26 while the latter touched in 1:45.86.
- Bota won the 100-yard backstroke with a 50.53, winning by nearly two full seconds. Sells touched third in 52.15.
- The Tigers went 1-3-4 in the 100-yard breaststroke as Benzing captured the event with a 54.17, winning by two full seconds. Diacumakos was in third at 57.84 while Ryan Bookstein took fourth in 1:01.02.
- McClure finished second in a close 200-yard butterfly, stopping in 1:49.17, just over a half-second back from first (1:48.50). Carson Bauer was fourth in 1:57.50.
- The 50-yard freestyle was another close race as Baldino took second with 21.03 on the clock. Drexel’s John Scully won in 20.98 while Adkins finished third in 21.42. Out of the break, Baldino exacted revenge, picking up first in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking a 46.10. Fazio (46.59) finished second, edging Scully by half a second.
- Sells, Flint and Brendan Farrar were second, third and fourth in the 200-yard backstroke, going in 1:52.88, 1:53.80 and 1:56.10 in order.
- Benzing picked up his second individual win of the day, timing a 2:02.74 in the 200-yard breaststroke, winning by over a second. Tanner Fatta was in third for the Tigers at 2:08.71 while Diacumakos was fourth at 2:09.12.
- Bookstein collected first-place points in the 500-yard freestyle with a winning time of 4:43.20. Munson took third with a 4:51.39.
- The 100-yard butterfly was a close race as McClure finished second in 49.88, less than a second back of first place (49.09). Bota was third in 51.64. Munson took third overall in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:00.60.
- Towson’s 200-yard freestyle relay team capped the day with a win as Benzing, Fazio, Schwar and Baldino combined for a two-second win at 1:22.77. The Tigers’ B Team of T.J.T Bearor, Adkins, McClure and Bota took third in 1:25.57.
- On the 1-meter board, Dorner took third overall, scoring a 280.57. First place went to Drexel’s Jack Patton (285.67) while Will Seely (285.60) of Drexel took second. Dorner captured fourth on the 3-meter board with a score of 211.65.
