Diana Nyad Less Than 2 Miles from Key West

10: 40am ET, 49 hours and 40 minutes into her Xtreme Dream, her epic Cuba to Florida open water swim, and Diana Nyad’s team is joking that she failed to make it 50 hours without stopping for a big chat.  Nyad, to friends and fans, is a rockstar of the sports world who oozes charisma. A gifted writer, storyteller and speaker, Nyad connects and engages so well because she loves people. That love and appreciation was just addressed to her crew in the final moments before her last push into shore.

Nyad via her live updated blog:

“I am about to swim my last two miles in the ocean. This is a lifelong dream of mine and I’m very very glad to be with you. Some on the team are the most intimate friends of my life and some of you I’ve just met. But I’ll tell you something, you’re a special group. You pulled through; you are pros and have a great heart. So let’s get going so we can have a whopping party… Thank you, all of you, thank you for your generosity.”
