Dawn Fraser announced as Swimming WA Ambassador

Australian swimming legend Dawn Fraser AO MBE has announced she will act as an ambassador for swimming in Western Australia, along with 2012 Olympian Blair Evans.

Fraser, who was unbeaten in the 100-metre Freestyle in three Olympic Games, was drawn to the position after learning of Swimming WA’s ambitious plans for growth and development.

The Australian of the Year will make special appearances at several key Swimming WA functions over the next 12 months, including a ticketed event at Beatty Park Aquatic Centre in North Perth on November 20.

The event will be a significant visit for Fraser, who won four gold medals at Beatty Park during the 1962 Commonwealth Games.

“I am impressed with the focus and strategic direction that Swimming WA has put in place for the next three years,” Fraser said.

“Everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of swimming, no matter what their ability or where they live, and Swimming WA is working hard to ensure that occurs.

“I’m excited about this next 12 months and helping to elevate the sport of swimming throughout WA.”

Swimming WA President Jeanette Bailey said the appointment of both Dawn and Blair Evans as ambassadors was a huge boost to the sport in WA.

“As we move into an Olympic year we’re thrilled to announce that two former Olympians have chosen to officially advocate Swimming WA and support the development of the sport in this state,” she said.

“To have someone the calibre of Dawn Fraser support this state, as well as the continued support of the very talented Blair Evans, is a huge boost for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

“We look forward to hearing both ladies speak at our event at Beatty Park on November 20.”

Tickets for the November 20 Swimming WA event can be reserved by emailing [email protected] and are $15 for Swimming WA members or $40 for non-members. The event will start at 5.30pm and run until 7pm.
