Colorado Free/IMer Katelyn Kenchel Gives Verbal Commitment to TCU

Katelyn Kenchel from the Jeffco Hurricanes and Evergreen High School has verbally committed to TCU. She shared with SwimSwam, “I’m very excited to announce that I have verbally committed to Texas Christian University! Everyone was so welcoming and made me feel a part of the team when I first walked on to the campus. The coaching staff was extremely welcoming as well and I can’t wait to swim for TCU, go Frogs!”

Kenchel placed third in the 100 free (51.17) and fifth in the 200 IM (2:06.81) at the 2016 CHSAA 4A State Championships last February. She also swam a leg on Evergreen’s 400 free relay and anchored the 200 medley relay; both relays finished third, and with no seniors they could be in contention for state titles next February.

In club swimming Kenchel had a good long course season, culminating in strong performances at Dolfin Junior National Cup in March and Western Zone Senior Championships in August. In the former she won the B final in the 200m IM (2:18.91) and was runner-up in the 400m IM (4:55.37). At the latter meet she dropped 5 seconds in the 200m free and earned her first Winter Juniors cut (2:04.95).

Her top SCY times are:

  • 200 IM – 2:03.16
  • 400 IM – 4:25.09
  • 200 back – 2:01.66
  • 100 free – 50.76
  • 200 free – 1:50.07
