CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams triumphed over crosstown rival Xavier on Friday evening inside Keating Aquatic Center.
The Bearcats delivered an impressive performance, with the men’s team securing a dominant 219-69 victory, while the women’s team claimed a 192-102 win over the Musketeers.
Cincinnati captured 21 event victories, sweeping six events. Sophomore Joe Swain and graduate student Hunter Gubeno led the men’s team with two individual wins each. Swain topped the 100-yard backstroke (50.16) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:50.15), while Gubeno found victory in the 50-yard freestyle (20.69) and the 100-yard freestyle (45.29).
Freshman John Reese Taylor earned his first collegiate win in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in at 1:53.76.
On the women’s side, graduate student Jessica Davis clinched victories in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.35) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.85). Junior Joleigh Crye also excelled, finishing first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.72. Freshman Maddie Reed made a splash but securing the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:22.24

The Bearcats swept all four relay events against Xavier. The meet kicked off with the men’s 200-yard medley relay team of Gubeno, Taylor, Levi Hansen, and Owen Chiles securing the first win with a time of 1:31.03. The women’s team, consisting of Ellie Schrank, Crye, Kate Mardis, and Davis, followed suit with a time of 1:42.78.
Cincinnati capped off the evening by winning the final two events. The women’s 200-yard freestyle relay team, composed of Kaylee Nagel, Sonja Aasrvold, Crye, and Davis, finished with a time of 1:34.75. For the men, Gubeno, Chiles, Dean Sherrer, and Caleb Reno sealed the meet with a first-place time of 1:23.81.

CINCINNATI – Men’s and women’s swimming traveled across town on Friday, facing the Cincinnati Bearcats at the Keating Aquatic Center to open up the spring semester.
Xavier will be back in the pool tomorrow afternoon, traveling to Louisville, Ky., to face Bellarmine and NKU at Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center with events starting at 1 PM.
- Amy Van Son, Karlie Dodd, Norah Simich and Alexis Worrall opened up the meet leading the Musketeers in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.14.
- Abby Bocian took first in the 1000 free, touching the wall in 10:27.58. Teegan Madara touched just behind her, placing second with a time of 10:32.03. Bocian also took first in the 200 back, setting a time of 2:05.11.
- Amy Van Son led the Musketeers in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.25.
- Reese Turner placed third in the 100 back with a time of 58.05.
- Jordyn Libler placed first in the 100 breast, finishing in a time of 1:02.74. Libler also led Xavier in the 200 IM, placing second with a time of 2:07.76.
- Norah Simich took the top spot in the 200 fly, setting a time of 2:02.66. She also led Xavier in the 100 fly, placing second with a time of 55.87.
- Olivia Oyster won the 50 free, setting a time of 22.97. Alexis Worrall placed third with a time of 24.21.
- Oyster came back with a time of 50.53 in the 100 free to sweep the freestyle sprints. Alexis Worrall collected another third-place finish with a time of 51.85.
- Maddy Lathrop led Xavier in the 200 breast, setting a time of 2:32.57.
- Teegan Madara placed third in the 500 free finishing in a time of 5:10.87.
- Alexis Worrall, Molly Dynda, Reese Turner and Olivia Oyster wrapped up the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay, finishing 1:35.28.
- Xavier’s women collected six event wins, but fell 192-102 in the team standings.
MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
- Gage Hannewyk, Ethan Saunders, Aiden Leamer and Kyle Hudson opened up events on the men’s side, placing second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:32.04.
- Ethan Saunders led Xavier in the 1000 free, placing third with a time of 9:47.34. Saunders also set a time of 57.63 in the 100 breast to lead the Musketeers.
- Kyle Hudson took second in the 100 free, finishing in 47.05. Hudson also finished third place in the 200 free, setting a time of 1:43.58.
- Gage Hannewyk led the Musketeers in the 100 back with time of 52.77.
- Owen Schwebach placed third in the 200 fly, setting a time 1:54.77. Schwebach also placed third in the 500 free with a time of 4:47.34.
- Aiden Leamer won the 100 fly, finishing in a time of 49.60. He also placed second in the 50 free, setting a time of 21.45.
- Nate Finnegan led the Musketeers in the 200 back, placing third with a time of 1:56.15.
- Matthew Scicchitano‘s time of 2:13.13 led the Musketeers in the 200 breast.
- Nathan Wall finished third in the 200 IM, finishing in 1:55.52.
- Ethan Saunders, Aiden Leamer, Kyle Hudson and Gage Hannewyk set a time of 1:24.09 to place second in the 200 free relay.
- The Musketeers fell by a final score of 219-69.
