Nearly simultaneously with Swimming South Africa’s announcement of their World Championship Roster, the Brazilian Swimming Federation (CBDA) has announced their own squad for the 2011 World Championships.
The announcement of the roster gives us a few hints. First of all, the exclusion of Tales Cerdeira means that Thiago Pereiera is likely planning on swimming the 200 breaststroke in Shanghai, because if he had scratched the race, then Cerdeira would have taken his spot.
Also, the Brazilians’ inclusion of Auburn swimmer Marcelo Chierighini, who was the 5th-fastest 100 freestyler, lends credence to Cielo swimming the 50 fly: an event where he ranked number one in the world in 2010. The 50 fly and the 400 free relay fall on the same day, and in order to maximize Cielo’s rest for the relay final, Chierighini will probably swim the preliminary heats.
