According to a report from the Indianapolis Star, the home pool of Carmel high school will be getting some renovations this summer. The Carmel Clay school board voted for $600,000 in improvements to the facility. That amount will go towards repairing a roof and fixing a ventilation system.
The Carmel High School Natatorium is comparable in size to many top Division I college facilities. Its dimensions are 50m by 25y. The school has been a dominant force in Indiana Swimming. Their girls team has won thirty consecutive state titles, while the boys have won five out of the last seven. While the pool didn’t risk being shut down if they didn’t go forward with the improvements, they should make for a nicer experience when completed.
The renovations to the pool will take place far away from the high school season as they are slated to begin in June. This timing should also allow the year round team (Carmel Swim Club) that practices there to seek outdoor swimming options while the pool is under construction. The work is expected to take 35 days.
