SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — With the anticipation of championship season mounting, the Cal Poly men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams closed out the regular season against Pacific on Saturday at Anderson Aquatic Center. Both teams put up massive victories, 179-113 for the women and 187-101 for the men, as nine graduating Mustangs were honored on Senior Day.
Prior to the meet, congratulations and well wishes went out to seniors Joshua Billotte, Katie Cross, Katie Faris, Sean Keegan, Kelly McDermott, Briana Medvecki, Alexa Porter, Marisa Ritchie, and Ryan Trichler.
The Mustangs won 21 of the afternoon’s 32 total events, including all the 500-yard and 1000-yard freestyle events. Freshman Olivia Sundgren came in just .29 seconds short of her personal best in the 1000 free, retaining her No. 4 spot in program history with that time. Sundgren also paced the 500 free by nearly seven seconds. Like Sundgren, sophomore Cameron Schwantes secured first in both the 500 and 100 Free.
Though standing unopposed, the Cal Poly dive teams had a day to remember. Briana Medvecki’s 3-meter dive became the second best in school history (304.05), which now gives her the No. 2 all-time marks in both the women’s 1-meter and 3-meter.
Cal Poly’s opening event relay team of Kiersten Weiler, Melia Costa, Katie Treacy, and Ella Bettencourt not only took a victory in the 200 medley but showed out individually in multiple events throughout the meet.
Costa’s 100 breast victory (1:03.02) reset both her personal best and her No. 4 mark in program history. Weiler came within just one second of McDermott in the 100 back, which McDermott took (57.13). Treacy secured her second win of the day with a first place 200 IM effort (2:05.01). Bettencourt also secured an individual victory as the freshman sprinted to a 52.10 first place in the 100 free.
On the men’s side, Keegan narrowly topped his personal best in his 200 IM win (1:48.95), while also nabbing a pair of second place performances in the 100 and 200 free. Reigning MPSF Male Athlete of the Week Drew Huston earned two individual victories on the afternoon with a fantastic 100 back performance that was nearly two seconds faster than the runner-up while also taking the 200 Back.
Cal Poly now looks to continue tapering and preparing for the upcoming MPSF Championships later this month, first with the diving portion on Feb. 11-14 before concluding the conference meet with swimming on Feb. 21-24.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif- Pacific men’s and women’s swim took eleven first place finishes in their meet against Cal Poly, but fell to the Mustangs in their regular season finale.
The Tigers opened the afternoon with the 200 medley relays. The women claimed second with a 1:44.79. The men took first behind Leland Baltazar, Srboljub Filipovic, Aidan Vollmar and Dylan Parente. They beat out Cal Poly by .14 of a second, finishing with a 1:30.33 for the second fastest time in the event this season.
Sophomore Diana Chan took second in the 1000 free with a 10:38.63 with junior Ellie Macphail right behind clocking a personal best 10:39.02.
Junior Jadyn Phillips followed with a first place finish and personal best 1:52.04 in the 200 free. Junior Alexia Ferguson took third with a 1:53.52. Junior Mitchell Hopper also nabbed a first place finish in the 200 free, clocking a 1:38.02.
Junior Leland Baltazar took second in the 100 back with a 49.43, his third fastest time in the event this season. Junior Srboljub Fillipovic raced a new personal best 57.76 in the 100 breast.
Senior Caitlin Tan and junior Noemi Melendez delivered the 1-2 punch in the 200 fly. Tan clocked a 2:03.31, her third fastest time this season, with Melendez following with a season best 2:05.39. Senior Aidan Scott took second in the 200 fly with a season best 1:50.48.
Ferguson took the 50 free with a 24.23, edging out Cal Poly by .15 of a second. Senior Dylan Parente claimed first with a 20.72, his third fastest time in the sprint this year.
Phillips returned for the 100 free, claiming second with a 52.45, .06 seconds short of her personal best. Hopper took first in the men’s 100 free, finishing at 45.00.
Sophomore Gabe Windmiller raced to a fourth place finish and a season best 4:39.62 in the 500 free.
Tan and Melendez followed up their 1-2 finish in the 200 fly with a 1-2 finish in the 100 fly. Tan claimed first with a 55.23 and Melendez followed with a 56.15. Hopper took first in the men’s 100 fly, clocking a 49.01, his second fastest time this season.
Junior Paige Sondgeroth took third in the 200 IM with a 2:07.13, her second fastest time this year.
The Tigers ended the meet sweeping first in the 200 free relays. The women, behind Alexia Ferguson, Noemi Melendez, Caitlin Tan and Jordyn Gonzales, clocked a 1:35.61. The men, behind Mitchell Hopper, Dylan Parente, Alex Kurotori and Leland Baltazar, took first by nearly a full second, finishing with a 1:22.27.
Pacific returns at the end of February for the MPSF Conference Championships in St. George, Utah.
